The Polish First Lady, Maria Kaczynska, has indicated that the President is willing to assist the mother of a Chechen woman, who lost three children to exposure last week as they attempted to enter Poland illegally, achieve refugee status.

“The Chechen woman who tried to illegally get through the Polish border with her children can count on help from the state in obtaining a refugee status”, said the Polish president’s wife, who visited the woman at a hospital in Ustrzyki Dolne (south east Poland) on Sunday.

“It is up to her if she gets the refugee status, because we are ready to help. By all means, Poland wants to extend a helping hand and provide care”, Maria Kaczyńska said.

The First Lady also said that the Chechen wanted her three daughters, who had died on their trek through the border, to be buried in their mother country.

“She had such wish and it is the wish of a mother brought up in Chechen tradition who know only wants her daughters to be buried in Chechnya – this is her only wish at the moment”, Maria Kaczyńska stressed.

On Thursday night, Polish border guards from Bieszczady found the Chechen woman Kamisa D. (36), who had been trying to get into

Poland through the so-called “green border” with her four children.

Three girls: Xaea (13), Ceda (10) and Elina (6) died during the arduous journey, most likely as a result of cold weather conditions and exhaustion.

Their bodies were found in the Bieszczady Mountains on the border between Poland and Ukraine
